The rooms are situated on the 2nd floor in the old captain's house on the KNSM-island, the former harbour area of Amsterdam. The rooms have a view over the IJ-harbour. You have a fridge, a microwave and you have access to free coffee and tea in your room.
Your hostess was born and bred in Amsterdam and she will be happy to tip you about places to go.
In front of the door you find café De Zuid, a cosy bar where you can drink a good glass of wine and eat a daily plate for a reasonable price. At a 5 minutes walk you find the shopping Centre Loods Brazilië with a couple of restaurants and bars.
The 'Oostelijke Havengebied', the east harbour area, is a beautiful area for walking along the IJ and the quay and the house boats and the special and modern architecture.
Tram line 10 stops in front of the door and bus 42 just around the corner. Within 15 minutes they take you to the Leidseplein or the Central Station and to the museums and daily markets.

This is really Amsterdam... A nice room with a great view in an old captain's home. Maria shows her hospitality and love for Amsterdam in a pleasant and enthousiastic way. A quiet sleep in a comfortable bed, followed by a delicious breakfast.
We would stay with Maria again next time!

Friendly landlady and good connections to the inner-city even at night.

It's an old house with it's limitations.

For a solo traveller like me, this island home was a brilliant place to stay. From the moment Maria welcomed me to her home, I felt comfortable there - and I particularly enjoyed the way this B&B felt like a home and not like a hotel. Maria's expert knowledge of the area was a great advantage; when she heard of my interests in theatre and the arts, she suggested I might enjoy a festival of which I was previously unaware and I spent a whole day there. Breakfasts were generous and delicious - and when other guests stayed there were happy and enjoyable conversations. The location was another advantage. The island is far away enough from the centre to be out of the noise of touristy Amsterdam but quickly and easily accessible by bus or tram. There's also a bar/restaurant across the road in which I felt welcome as a single female traveller. It was great to be in a Dutch home rather than a hotel, and views of boats from the window were a particular pleasure.

These aren't really criticisms, just things to help travellers decide. This is home rather than a hotel and, as I knew in advance, that means a shared loo and bathroom. On one morning I did have to wait for the shower - but that can happen at home as well. Maria's house also reflects her style, which I like, rather than the impersonal look of chain hotels. I had no problems with two flights of stairs, which is usual in Amsterdam, but they might worry someone with mobility problems. But please don't change this lovely, characterful house.

Well connected to the downtown by tram
For improvement
Too many people for one bathroom. The room was untidy; it seemed a lumber room. No bedside tables.

Surrounding was interesting, harbour, nice view, not too far from the City Centre, breakfast good, landlady friendly

Room very ugly, private stuff of the owner only covered with blankets, mouldy coffee machine, no electricity for the tea/coffee-making facilities, bed very basic, shared shower and toilet in poor condition

Nous avons découvert un endroit d'Amsterdam peu touristique, et plein de charme. C'est agréable, une fois la journée de visites finie, de se retirer loin de la foule et du bruit.
D'autre part, Maria est charmante , discrète et prête à aider si on le demande.
