Positive Experiences
For me, the Amsterzonian B&B was my pied-a-terre for 10 days during the Imagine (SF/horror/fantasy) film festival Amsterdam 2013 that took place in the EYE film museum. I usually rent apartments without Breakfast, but owner Fred Dwarshuis had stocked a diverse collection of food before I came, and thus made me deviate from my principles. The contents of the refrigerator was ample for breakfast as well as lunch. Moreover, Fred reimbursed what I paid in the nearby supermarket for replenishment, needed later on to cover the full 10 days that I stayed there. For a self catering lodger (like me) the kitchen offers enough tableware and cutlery to have your own dinner at “home”.
The location was ideal for my purposes. The whole area north of the IJ is not crowded with tourists, in fact a very quiet neighborhood, and not overly expensive as the apartments I rented previously within the city center. Yet, the city center is less than half an hour away. For local transport Fred had bikes available, included in the rent. As a fall back, when the weather did not cooperate, there was a bus stop on 3 minutes walking distance. Both brought me in 15 to 20 minutes to the EYE film museum, and also to the ferry over the IJ canal that brings you in a few minutes to Central Station, on walking distance from the city center. The most efficient routes were very well explained by Fred on my arrival. Apart from that, there was a broad collection of maps and public transport time tables in the apartment, as well as information about landmarks and the well known tourist attractions in and around Amsterdam.
I regret that the film festival did not leave much room for other activities. The part of Amsterdam at the north side of the IJ canal has so much to offer, especially for those already having seen all the museums and shopping streets in the Amsterdam city center. Aforementioned bikes are a natural way to explore the area, though the cold April wind made me hesitate some of the time. For water lovers there are three kayaks available, included in the rent. Fred's backyard gives direct access to canals in the neighborhood, thus offering the opportunity to explore the water rich area that Amsterdam North actually is. Most of my time there it was freezing, making this alternative way to visit the area not very attractive. Such activities can better be postponed to warmer months of the year.
All in all, I left the apartment with only a few hints for improvement, none of a serious nature. The apartment on the top floor, just below the roof, is not spacious but it contains everything you need, including a large table to eat and work, toilet and shower for yourself, and faultlessly working (WiFi and cabled) Internet. The good natured owner is helpful when you need it, but respects your privacy otherwise. I cannot think of anything that I really missed.

Positive Experiences
We have booked this b&b for three nights over Easter 2013 but we liked it so much that we stayed one day longer. The owner is very friendly and helpful, a man of a great persinality. From the very beginning he was very quick answering our e-mails and prividing us with all the information we needed. The room was small but very good lit and it had much more comfort than we could expect: fully equiped kitchen, a nice caffee machine, comfy bathrobes, fresh flowers, lots of nice food for breakfast stored in the fridge, high quality soap... The bed was very comfortable. The great bonus was the possibility to park the car for free just in front of the house and the free bikes that gave us the freedom of movement so we could see much more of the Amsterdam than by just walking around. There is a big supermarket no more than three minutes away and a bus stop with several bus lines. All in one we were happy to stay at Amazonian and would do it again any time.
