The influential Heerema family used to inhabit the 'Heeremastate'. Looking at the community register from around 1830, we find that 'Heeremastate' consists of the present-day building and adjacent structures, including work-room and the pasture at the back. In the 20th century 'Heeremastate' fell into decay and in 1972 a heavy storm almost destroyed the home. Ds. Kreb and a number of 'Bolswarder' architects restored the building in its original style in 1974. In the centre of Bolsward, in a back street opposite the town hall, you will find this monumental home. Despite its central location, the peace and quiet nearby is a relief! You will be welcomed by an enthusiastic family who rebuilt parts of this historical building and turned it into an inn where guests can spend the night in an atmosphere of past times and indulge in today's luxury.
