The name Craubeek refers to a (dry) stream and a valley with springs, also known as "zevensprong" (seven-way intersection). Kunrade stone, which was also used locally, for example in the construction of the Maria Chapel of 1927 in the village center, was extracted from the slopes around Craubeek.
