In Gulpen, junction of walking and cycling routes and in the middle of the South Limburg Hill Country, lies De Auw Sjoekelaatfabriek. Where once chocolate was processed into rum beans, chocolate bars and other goodies, you can now have a wonderful stay. The B&B rooms are decorated with a nod to the past and bear the names ‘Melk’ and ‘Puur’. In the common room ‘Praliné’, breakfast is served and you can sit and muse about the day's activities with a drink or browse through the books and maps available there in the mini library. The very spacious ‘Bonbonnière’ flat is where the past comes most vividly to life: it still has the original tiles from the chocolate factory and the lighting and paintings reflect its later function as a gallery.
